15 May 2010

It happened again. "Into every life a little rain must fall", well mine is occasionally punctuated by deluges.

At 4.30am I was awoken by my bladder. No big deal. I'm actually unsure if it was my bladder that woke me or pain, but no matter. I was awake, and wanted to have a wee. Except that my legs didn't agree.

A repeat of 28 December 2008. I have a cold. Not a major problem, runny nose and all that, but it seems that minor viruses running through my body have a quite unbelievable effect. My legs wouldn't bend, so getting out of bed became a major drama. When I finally managed it, I tottered to the loo, using the walls and doorways for support.

When I made it to the bathroom, somehow turning around resulted in my almost falling into the bath. As I girded my loins to haul myself up again, I failed miserably and found myself on my knees. From there it was a progressively deteriorating situation, resulting in every attempt to get up being hampered by my lack of balance. I ended up in the bathroom doorway.

Thankfully, I had my Care Link push button round my neck I pressed it and heard the main unit dialing. A friendly voice answered. I said that I wanted them to phone the second number on the list they have. All I wanted was to have my sons there, to help me. Sadly it was not to be.

They called for an ambulance. Luckily, being in the bathroom doorway, I was able to reach the entry phone and let the ambulance crew in. They were lovely. Helped me up onto a chair, checked my temperature, blood sugar level, blood pressure. I assured them that other than the MS, I am in rude health.

They gave me my phone and I called one of my sons. So all in all, it wasn't a bad event. All's well that ends well.

But it left me feeling that it really was a palaver.
