12 July 2011

Oh dear, it has been too long (again) since I wrote this. So much has happened, but (it seems) so little time to write about it. I even started, then lost the file I was drafting. Hey ho. I will do my best to remember.

The most important thing was that I had a 'pseudo relapse' - one where I get some sort of infection that causes the symptoms of a relapse, but isn't one. This one was caused by a UTI. As you know, dear diary, I use intermittent-self-catheterisation to empty my bladder. Well, I stupidly failed to discard the used catheter from the handy little travel pack. So I thought I had a fresh one, but didn't. Alarm bells should have been ringing when I took it out, but I was bursting and assumed that the sterile water in the catheter had done likewise.

So I filled it with tap water and relieved myself. There followed the mother of all UTIs. When I say my urine stank, that woulkd be a bit of an understatement. At the same time, I tried to get out of bed and gor stuck, legs hangind over the edge, trunk resting stubbornly flat on the bed. I strongly recommnend you try it; it is one of the most uncomfortable positions to be in.

Fortunately I could reach the phone and my super-strong elder son was home from uni. He lifted me as if I weighed nothing. The doctor came, gave me the shortest course of antibiotics ever and I was bouncing (relatively) within a couple of days. Hurrah.

More soon. I promise.
